F.W. Gaisberg Music Goes Round

Blue cloth cover has some slight soiling, fading, discoloration around edges. Corners and edges are worn. Penned letters on bottom of spine. What appears to be a tape stain on back cover. No dust jacket. Stamp inside front cover, on title page. Dedication page has a stamp and penciled notation near spine. Camden County Free Libary Camden, New Jersey stamp appears on several chapter pages throughout the book. Binding is cracked in several places but secure. Pages are off-white and supple. Includes several black-and-white plates on glossy paper; one is coming loose but is still attached.

This book comes from the private collection of the legendary jazz clarinetist and Jazz Hall of Fame inductee, Kenny Davern. While Kenny was best known as a jazz musician who worked with everyone from Jack Teagarden to Steve Lacy, he attributes David Weber, principal solo clarinetist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra as his most influential teacher. He and I would listen to mostly classical music when we visited and discussed the differences in interpretations by various conductors. Kenny's knowledge of classical music was encyclopaedic, particularly of the work of conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler whose works lined the walls of his music room.
